Be Vigil Against Sin's Consequences:
The consequence of sin is expulsion. When sin occurred in heaven, Lucifer and his followers were expelled. Similarly, when sin entered the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were also expelled. Therefore, whenever we commit sin, we move far away from God's presence, away from love. As the scripture states:
"... God is love." (1 John 4:16, NIV).
By committing sin, we distance ourselves from God, who is love. Satan, the enemy of love, robs us of godly love. As the adversary of love, Satan is not only my enemy but also the enemy of all humanity. We must be vigilant and alert to Satan's schemes.
Acknowledging Sin: Saves From the Curse:
On one hand, Adam and Eve failed to be vigilant, allowing Satan to infiltrate the Garden of Eden and steal godly love. On the other hand, they not only missed the opportunity for repentance provided by God but also blamed Him, resulting in their expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Therefore, it is better to acknowledge and accept our sins rather than trying to cover them up, lest we commit another sin in the process, as Adam did. While expelling them from the Garden of Eden, God warned them that they would have to work hard to earn a living, as recorded in the scripture:
"...in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life" (Genesis 3:17, NIV).
The above words of God reveal a profound divine truth, making an in-depth understanding of it, in the following sections, is essential.
(A) The Sacred Mystery Behind Toiling to Earn One's Livelihood:
The words of God in Genesis 3:17 (NIV) are not a curse, but a life-giving, sacred message for Adam – and, by extension, humanity. I am filled with joy as I present God's will, concealed behind this verse. I sincerely request that you read this repeatedly and grasp its significance fully. Amen!
In the Garden of Eden, the Garden of love, and God's Garden, a river of milk and honey flowed, where every need was met. Adam and Eve lacked nothing as they roamed the Garden. However, their bond of love with God was broken due to sin, and they failed to reestablish it through repentance. As a result, they found themselves in a desolate wilderness, beyond the Garden's boundaries, where the only provision was God's life-giving command:
"...in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life" (Genesis 3:17, NIV)
Beyond the Garden of Eden's gates, Adam and Eve, in the desolate wilderness, failed to grasp the significance of God's life-giving command (Genesis 3:17, NIV). Struggling to find sustenance, they began to toil in exhausting physical labor. The irony is striking: within the Garden of Eden, a river of milk and honey flowed, while beyond its gates, Adam and Eve's sweat dripped.
(B) God, the Ultimate Forgiver:
I am astonished that Adam and Eve, our ancestors, after gaining knowledge of good and evil by eating the fruit of the central tree, failed to seek forgiveness. Despite God's repeated questioning, which offered them opportunities to seek forgiveness, they avoided them. Why did they miss the chance to seek forgiveness for deviating from the designated lifestyle within the Garden of Eden? God, being love, has an ultimate forgiving nature, as scripted:
"If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:13, NIV)
The Price of Not Grasping God's Word:
If Adam and Eve had sought forgiveness, even after leaving the Garden of Eden, God, the ultimate forgiver, would have certainly pardoned them. He would have welcomed them back to the Garden of love with open arms, restoring their souls in His image and likeness. Oh! it didn't happen, and they toiled beyond the Garden's gates; do you know why? Indeed, there is no greater labor than seeking forgiveness! Alas! If only Adam and Eve had grasped the value of God's life-giving words, "eating by hard work," they would have wholeheartedly sought forgiveness for their wrongdoing.
The Hurdle in Seeking Forgiveness:
There is no toil more laborious than seeking forgiveness. How shameful and embarrassed we feel while seeking forgiveness! Despite God's call for spiritual labor, which is seeking forgiveness, humanity fails to do so due to public shame, arrogance, and pride. If we truly care for our souls, we will not hesitate or feel ashamed to seek forgiveness from our brothers, sisters, and God, thereby instilling divine love amongst us.
(C) The Impact of Ancestral Sins:
Alas! If Adam and Eve had sought forgiveness, we would have been born within the Garden of Eden – free from difficulties and worries. However, Adam and Eve failed to seek forgiveness, and as a result, humanity has been born outside the Garden of Eden, in a desolate wilderness, bearing the burden of our ancestral sins. As Scripture records:
"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.." (Psalm 51:5 NIV)
