The First Sin: Who, Where and When
Do you know who committed the first sin, when and where? To this, most people respond that it was Adam and Eve, the first humans, in the Garden of Eden. Perhaps you share this view, or do you agree with my perspective: The first sin did not occur on earth, but in the heaven. Surprisingly, the first sinner was none other than an archangel, named Lucifer. The name originates from Latin, meaning “morning star,” as recorded in the scripture:
How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! (Isaiah 14:12, NIV)
Angels' Creation: Heavenly Precision
God not only named angels beautifully, but also created them with supreme power, splendor beyond our imagination, adorned them with heavenly attire, endowed them with absolute wisdom, and gave them a dwelling place in heaven, as recorded in Scripture:
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings[b] were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. (Ezekiel 28:12-14, NIV)
Arrogance Consumes the Morning Star:
The splendor, the super power, the wisdom, the intelligence, the heavenly attire, the smartness, and the divine status of the Archangel Lucifer made him arrogant. In his arrogance, he incited numerous angels against God and led them to worship him instead. Thus, he tried to expand his dominion in heaven, as recorded in Scripture:
You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. …. (Ezekiel 28:15-16, NIV)
The Fall of Lucifer:
As Lucifer, consumed by arrogance and pride, sought to elevate his status in heaven, God's most holy dwelling, by abusing the wisdom and divine power God had endowed him with. This rebellion sparked an intense battle between Archangel Michael's army and Lucifer's, and Lucifer was thrown to the earth with his army, as Scripture records:
Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. (Ezekiel 28:16-17, NIV)
No Room for Evil in Heaven:
Lucifer and his army, driven by deceit and arrogance, tried to pollute the holiness of God's temple. However, God destroyed their pride and arrogance by casting them into hell, for no evil can dwell in heaven, the holy place. The fiery blaze of hell reduced Lucifer's and his army's heavenly attire to ashes, as Scripture records:
By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. (Ezekiel 28:18, NIV)
Beware the Envious Evil:
God stripped Lucifer and his army of heavenly bliss, their glory, and left them naked. Yet, God did not undo their intelligence and unparalleled power. Now, the rebellious one, with a twisted heart, and full strength, wanders the earth seeking to destroy human harmony. Knowing his heavenly bliss has ended forever, Lucifer envies humanity's bliss, using his cunning and might to destroy it, as Scripture records:
All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you have come to a horrible end and will be no more. (Ezekiel 28:19, NIV)
Sin Against the Holy Spirit:
The discussion clarifies that Lucifer and his followers committed an unforgivable sin in heaven against the Holy Spirit, transforming them into evil spirits. This bars them from heavenly bliss and eternal life, and they can’t even dream of heaven. Aware of this, the evil spirit seeks to replicate its status in human souls by tempting them to sin against the Holy Spirit, a deliberate effort to debar them from heavenly bliss. As stated in the scripture:
“And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” (Matthew 12:31-32, NIV)
Lucifer's Demise: A Warning to Humanity
Driven by arrogance and pride, Archangel Lucifer forgot God's immense grace: his splendor, stature, knowledge, intelligence, wisdom, and heavenly attire. Blinded by his own arrogance, he equated himself with God and sinned against the Holy Spirit, sealing his and his followers' destruction.
Arrogance and pride precipitate downfall, from which recovery is impossible. Today, that same arrogance, embodied in Lucifer, seeks to instill pride in mankind, making them his followers and barring them from heaven forever.
Therefore, we must rid ourselves of inner arrogance and pride, preventing ourselves from sinning against the Holy Spirit. How can we dream of heaven after sinning against the Holy Spirit?
As Scripture warns:
"Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression." (Psalm 19:13, NIV)
Therefore, in the next article we will delve into the ‘second sin’ of the divine history to understand why it is essential to protect ourselves from Lucifer, the first ever sinner.
