Mischievous Act:
An employer used to hire without written agreements. His employees worked diligently and delivered according to his expectations. On each pay-day, the employer used to make partial payment through cash, promising to settle on next pay-day. Thus, he invested the withheld funds in gambling, and the cycle continued.
Harrashment and Frustration:
Harrashment and Frustration:
Employees waited patiently, but as time passed, frustration mounted. With sizable amounts withheld, they were unable to take legal action due to the absence of a written agreement. Exhausted and deprived, they watched the employer enjoy a lavish lifestyle, starkly contrasting biblical teachings, that says:
- "Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns... Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it." (Deuteronomy 24:14-15)
- "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act." (Proverbs 3:27)
Financial Integrity:
This emphasizes the worker's right to timely payment. Just as we expect quality work, we should pay fairly and on time.
Money is just a resource; treating others right sustains relationships. Wealth can create divisions even among brothers if not handled properly as written in scripture: (Proverbs 28:25) "A greedy person stirs up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper."
The Bible warns against relying on gambling (including lottery and shares) for income, urging us to work hard instead as scripture tells: "By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground..." (Genesis 3:19)
As we need income to live, others do too. Thus, we should pay workers their dues promptly, without delay. It is in line with the biblical verse that states: (Matthew 6:8) "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him."
A Universal Goal:
If only every individual believe that the precious life is an opportunity to rectify our financial misconduct, ensuring no one's payment is pending at the time of death, hunger, financial harassments, hunger, economic disparities would decrease.
A Sincere Prayer:
May the world establish fair living standards, transparent payment laws for public and private sectors, and protect workers from exploitation.
