The Importance of Values, Culture, and Principles

Published: 10/03/2020

Upbringing in a Family:

Family values, culture, and principles play a vital role in raising children in a family. Parents try to cultivate these in their children and expect them to instill the same for generations to come."

A Harsh Reality:

Although a couple tried their best and were satisfied with their efforts towards cultivating their family values, culture, and principles, they were stunned on hearing their son's suspension from college due to a violent altercation. Stunned the parents were devastated, prompted to re-evaluate their failure in upbringing their son.

The Destructive Potential of Worldly Desires:

I am sure, no parent would like such a harsh day! The fact is that the world outside is ready to swallow our values and moral. It wants us to succumb to mortal desire. The evil wants to oppress our beautiful life to rule over us, leaving us handicapped in distinguishing between good and evil. The worldly desire has been compared in the biblical verse (Psalm 22:13 ) which states, ‘Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me.’

No parent wants to face such a day. The harsh truth is that worldly desires can lead us astray, making us ignore good values and succumb to evil, leaving us handicapped in distinguishing between good and evil. This allure of worldly desires is likened to predatory forces in Psalm 22:13, 'Roaring lions that tear their prey open their mouths wide against me,' highlighting their destructive potential.

Avoiding Destructive Potential:

One who ignores ethical values and morals will inevitably adopt double standards, with ignorance becoming a habit. Circumstances dictate his actions, as evil's tempting simplicity overtakes the good in him. Performing good is not impossible, but incredibly difficult, whereas evil acts require little effort. As Psalm 115:6 cautions: 'They have ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell.'

A Call to Alignment:

Life presents an opportunity to harmonize our thoughts and actions, guided by values, culture, and sacred principles. This alignment enables us to live a peaceful life and leave a lasting legacy – a moral roadmap – for future generations.

A Global Concern:

If only leaders, officials, governments, and people worldwide aligned their words and actions with their cultural values and constitutional principles, much harm could have been avoided.

A Sincere Prayer:

May Lord grant wisdom to everyone to distinguish between good and evil, to abide by Your commandments, as expressed in John 14:15: 'If you love me, keep my commandments.'

As we strive to align our thoughts and actions with universal principles, let us recognize and respect the diversity of human experience. May our shared humanity unite us, transcending boundaries of caste, creed, nationality, and ethnicity.

Amen!

Praise be to God, Thanks be to God.
