Self Reflection

Rights, Responsibilities, and Accountability

A Heartfelt Conversation:

A king's lavish and luxurious lifestyle caused him to neglect his people. His extravagant lifestyle was a mix of royal indulgences, lavish clothing, and more than enough servants around him round the clock. People of his kingdom had a miserable life caused by the king's oppression, which spread discord and tyranny. His regular decrees were adding to the public misery.

Prophecy & Advice:

One day, a prophet in the king's court warned him, "Your Majesty, the day is near when you'll find yourself alone on your throne, for your people are slowly understanding your tactics and uniting against you." Enraged, the king imprisoned the prophet.

Ignorance of Advice:

Later, when the king issued another decree, his messengers returned with news that the people had rejected his rule. The king demanded his army, only to be told they had joined the people against him. Shaken, he summoned the prophet, apologizing and seeking counsel.

Recalling the Prophet:

The prophet advised the king to issue a public apology, acknowledging his failure to serve the people and God highlighting the biblical verse (Mark 10:44-45):As the Bible says, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be the slave of all." The king humbly accepted and revoked all his decrees, issuing a new edict prioritizing the people's welfare.

A Call to Examine Ourselves:

As we navigate our various roles and positions, let us remember that we are all servants, called to a higher purpose. The greater our authority, the greater our responsibility to serve others selflessly. By renouncing self-interest and embracing the divine in every human being, we not only honour God but also find true fulfilment. As the Bible reminds us, on the Day of Judgment, our actions will be measured by our treatment of the least among us: 'Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.' (Matthew 25:40)

Global Concern:

If only individuals in positions of influence – officials, leaders, scholars, and the wealthy – embraced humility, prosperity would flourish. By putting aside pride and ego, we can foster unity, promote equality, and unlock collective growth. Let us strive for a world where humility guides decision-making, and compassion drives progress.

Humble Prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before you with humble hearts.

- May we repent from our wrongdoings, abhor evil, and love goodness. May leaders, governments, officials, and the public serve with compassion, remembering that true greatness lies in servanthood.

- May we keep ourselves grounded in humility, fulfilling as the verse Matthew 20:26-27 reminds us, 'Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.'

- May our service bring unity, peace, and righteousness to our communities.

Amen!

Praise be to God, Thanks be to God.
