What is Prayer? (Part-VII)

Published: 13/07/2022

Prayer: Glorifying and Magnifying God

Prayer is synonymous with glorifying and magnifying God. A humble prayer brings God’s presence and peace, as stated in Scripture: Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:3, NIV)

The Foundation of Humility:

Humility requires purity and holiness of soul. This involves a continuous process of extracting envy, quarrel, fighting, estrangement, anger, lust, adultery, and other vices from the soul. Overcoming our weaknesses is difficult, but not impossible. Humanity's preoccupation with worldly concerns and worries often hinders this process.

Mary's Soul: A Model of Humility

Mary's soul magnifies and glorifies God, demonstrating the importance of humility. Humanity must guide their souls to humility to immerse in God’s magnification and glorification 24/7/365.

The Challenge of the Mortal Body:

Our mortal body poses a significant obstacle to consistent magnification and glorification of God, as Scripture states: For the corruptible body presseth down the soul, and the earthy tabernacle weigheth down the mind that museth upon many things. (Wisdom of Solomon 9:15, KJV)

A Cautionary Measure: Eve's Incident

The incident involving Eve in the Garden of Eden illustrates the consequences of prioritizing the body over the soul. When tempted by the allure of pleasing her eyes and gaining knowledge, Eve made a fateful choice, prioritizing her bodily desires over her spiritual well-being. This decision led to a profound loss: the loss of humility of her soul.

The Consequences of Prioritizing the Body:

Eve's focus on her body led to spiritual death. Similarly, an individual's magnification and glorification from their mouth cannot please God if their soul is not associated with God, broken from Him, and has become impure and unholy.

A Call to Reflection:

Let us all reflect on this, as Scripture states: As Scripture states: No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. (Luke 6:43-45, NIV)

In Conclusion:

We must strive for the purity and holiness of our soul, as stated in Scripture: But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (Luke 12:31, NIV)

Now, we must reflect: what is our greatest love, soul or body? What is our greatest concern, soul or body?

As we delve deeper into the concept of continuous prayer, we will explore the understanding of the human body and soul, and how to unceasingly glorify our Lord God.
