God Prioritizes Our Soul:
Prayer is synonymous with continually praising God. To achieve this, God created our soul before forming our physical body, as written in Scripture:
”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV)
As a result, God has prioritized our immortal soul over our mortal body. This fundamental truth prompts us to reflect on our priorities.
Do We Prioritize Our Soul?
How do we care for our soul and body? How do we allocate time for both? Which of these two do we spare more time for? It's essential to examine our habits, as humanity often spends most of their time worrying about the mortal body. Is such worry for the mortal body justified?
Do Not Worry:
Scripture offers guidance on this:
Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (Luke 12:22-31, NIV)
In conclusion, our priorities should align with God's, focusing on the eternal soul rather than the temporal body. Therefore, we should allocate more time to nurturing our soul than our body.
Let's Learn from Mary:
As we strive to prioritize our soul, let's draw inspiration from Mary, the mother of Jesus. In the article, “What is Prayer? Part-II”, we discussed how Mary applies her soul to magnify and glorify God continually. This illustrates that, like Mary, our souls can also be applied to continually magnify and glorify God.
A Reciprocal Relationship with God:
Furthermore, when we prioritize our soul's well-being, showing our love and care for it, we ensure its purity, making it suitable for God to dwell in. As written in Scripture:
because she will be looking for those who are worthy of her, and she will find you wherever you are. She is kind and will be with you in your every thought. (Wisdom 6:16, GNT)
It's essential to understand that God resides in those who nurture and love their soul. As a result, these individuals dedicate most of their time to ensuring their soul remains worthy of God's continuous presence. In return, God will never disappoint them. This reciprocal relationship between humanity and God is profound.
The Characteristics of Those Who Host God's Presence:
In addition, individuals who host God's presence flourish in His purity. They maintain their soul's purity, dedicating their entire being to continually glorify God. They rise above worldly desires, living a life that conquers the flesh, and consistently uphold their soul's purity. This is because they understand that their body can defile their soul. Consequently, their soul remains immersed in God's glory 24/7/365.
As stated in Scripture:
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5, NIV)
As we delve deeper into the concept of continuous prayer, we will explore the understanding of the human body and soul, and how to unceasingly glorify our Lord God.
