What is Prayer? (Part-IV)

Published: 10/07/2022

To Magnify God, We Need Absolute Knowledge of the Soul:

A musical instrument cannot be played skillfully without proper knowledge of it. Similarly, without knowledge of the soul, it is impossible to perfectly magnify and glorify God. Who would want to listen to a musician who doesn't know how to play? Likewise, how can we magnify God without knowing our soul?

As stated in Scripture:

"When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! (Isaiah 1:15, NIV)

This verse emphasizes the importance of knowing our soul and living a righteous life to truly magnify and glorify God.

Understanding Human Soul:

To genuinely magnify and glorify God, humanity must understand their soul and the purpose of its creation. Let's explore this concept further: for any action to occur, a corresponding entity is required, highlighting the dependence of verbs on nouns.

For example:

• A chair is needed to sit.
• Food is needed to eat.
• A couple is needed for marriage.
• A dwelling is needed to reside in.
• A book is needed to read.

If:

• We lack a chair, then how can we sit?
• We lack food, then how can we eat?
• We lack a dwelling, then how can we reside in?
• We lack a book, then how can we read?

Therefore, entities are necessary for actions to take place. If we lack them, the corresponding actions cannot occur. This analogy raises a profound question: How did God know humanity before our conception in our mother's womb? In other words, how did God know us before we were created?

For us to be known to Him, our existence is necessary – we (noun) and His knowledge about us (verb). But He knew us before we were conceived in our mother's womb, as recorded in Scripture:

”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV)

God Knew Us Before Our Conception:

God knew us before we were conceived and created in our mother's womb. Before forming us in our mother's womb, God created our soul, in His image and likeness, as He is soul too. This demonstrates God's profound love for humanity, as our soul's existence predates our physical birth. We are pieces of His sacred heart, His sons and daughters. No human being is a stranger; everyone is ours.
Therefore, Jesus commands, as recorded in Scripture:

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. (John 15:12, NIV)

Love Each Other Like God:

Do we truly comprehend God's love for humanity? If we do not understand God's love for humanity, then how can we love others like His love? Let me tell you: God loves humanity before He forms us in our mother's womb. Therefore, it is essential for us to love those who were loved by God before their formation in their mother's womb. Thus, there is no scope for envy, quarrel, fighting, anger, lust, adultery, corruption, backbiting, estrangement, pride, pretense, hypocrisy, grumble, or evil games with them, as written in Scripture:

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. (Isaiah 1:15-17, NIV)

What holds significance in our life?

As we ponder the essence of our existence, we must consider what truly matters. Secondly, we also need to comprehend that our soul predates our physical body. Let us reflect: what takes precedence in our life: our soul or our body? How do we allocate our time: towards our soul or our body? This analysis is essential, as our physical body is made of dust and is bound to return to dust, but our soul is immortal, designed to attain eternal life and dwell in the presence of God, magnifying and glorifying Him forever.

As we delve deeper into the concept of continuous prayer, we will explore the understanding of the human body and soul, and how to unceasingly glorify our Lord God.
