Jesus: The Perfect Model for Triumphing Over the Worldly Kingdom
We often pray (recite only) for God's kingdom to come, but Jesus clarifies the nature of His kingdom, saying: "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place." (John 18:36, NIV) This statement underscores the fact that God chooses individuals before they are born and brings them into this world to establish His kingdom, not to get entangled in worldly pursuits.
Unfortunately, humanity, loved by God, has spread evil and chaos in this world. It is crucial to recognize that if we fail to bring God's kingdom into our lives, we cannot participate in the eternal celebration in heaven. God's kingdom is a kingdom of absolute truth, love, kindness, humility, forgiveness, peace, compassion, empathy, endurance, tolerance, and patience.
Jesus Himself descended from heaven to spread God's kingdom, as humanity has failed to do so due to our lack of genuine interest and our preference for worldly desires. As Jesus said, "You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." (John 18:37, NIV)
Are we not born to testify to the truth? How long will we continue to live in untruth, characterized by envy, strife, quarrels, estrangement, backbiting, social injustice, dirty politics, hatred, anger, lust, adultery, laziness, bribery, and more, which are all manifestations of pride, hypocrisy, and pretense?
Will we continue to merely recite, "Your Kingdom come!" without genuinely striving to bring God's kingdom into our lives as Jesus did?
