INSPIRATIONAL PARADOX

Obeying God: The Key to Relating to Him

Published: 11/09/2024

The statement:

In prayer, I try to relate myself to God and listen to His voice in my heart. Let this be the way of my life.

Perusal of the Statement: To relate to God, in other words to be a relative (mother, father, brother, sister etc..) of the Lord, obeying the "Lord's commandments" is crucial. People certainly pray to relate to the Lord, but often fail to obey Him. One can easily relate to the Lord by obeying Him every moment. Relating to the Lord is a continuous process achieved by continuously obeying Him. Jesus replied, “My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God's word and obey it.” (Luke 8:21, NIV)

Abundance of God’s Commandments: The Lord's words are always available; we can listen and obey anywhere, anytime. If we obey Him, we have listen to Him, but if we don’t, we ignore Him, even after having listened to Him. Therefore, Jesus said: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear". (Matthew 11:15, NIV)

God’s Desire for Humanity: The Lord wants us to be His relatives, relating to Him every moment. His words are abundantly available for us to listen and obey. However, we often fail to listen. Here is a scripture reference of failure:

Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
“‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
(Luke 16:29-31, NIV)

God’s Unprecedented Relatives: Virgin Mary became the Lord's mother by obeying His commandments. She said, "'Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word'" (Luke 1:38, NIV)

Obey God to be His Relative: Jesus related to the Lord by obeying Him. His acts pleased the Lord because He obeyed His Father's commandments, as recorded in scripture: When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father's commandments and remain in his love. (John 15:10, NIV)

Jesus abides by the Lord's commandments, relating to God, who is Love: "God is love." (1 John 4:8, NIV)

Jesus Desires us As His Relative: To relate to God (Love), we must abide by His words. This continuous process requires obeying Him every moment, pleasing Him, and becoming His relatives, as recorded in scripture: that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:21, NIV)

God Accepts Prayers from His Relatives Only: Abiding by the Lord's commandments pleases Him. Prayer is to please or glorify Him. Obeying is also praying. Prayer without obeying is meaningless, as stated in scripture:

When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood! Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. (Isaiah 1:15-16, NIV)

In Conclusion: We were created to obey the Lord every moment. Let's obey Him to relate to Him.
